Retired city leader probed for ties with mafia gang

A former Xiangtan City official in central Hunan Province is being probed for her connection with a mafia-style criminal organization. Fu Yongmei, 60, who retired in January from the post of chairwoman of Xiangtan People's Congress Standing Committee, was investigated for "serious violations of discipline," according to a statement on Xiangtan government website yesterday. Online rumors said Fu might have some connection with Ou Jian, chairman of the Panglong Logistics Ltd, who was arrested on January 17 for allegedly involved in organized crimes at about the same time when Fu retired.
