Meat gives out blue florescent glow, reason unknown

(From Sohu) It is the first time in my life seeing a piece of meat glowing in the dark. Mr Li from Sichuan Province told the press, we have already eaten half of it, I am worried. With his concern in mind, Mr Li bought it up to the meat vendor from the market who defended that all his products are from certified butchers. The meat do come with quarantine stamp on.

Mr Li bought 1 kilo of meat on Dec 4th, he didnt put it into the freezer since the temperature is already very low. At the night of Dec 7th, he hung the meat by his bedroom wall to keep it from the cat only to be scared by the florescent blue glow of the meat in the middle of the night. I woke up and saw there is a small area of blue glowing by the wall, vague but scary. I turned on the light immediately and saw the meat hanging there. He couldnt believe his eyes so he woke up his wife and turned the light on again, and they both convinced that it was the meat thats glowing in the dark.

Dec 11st, reporter came to Mr Lis. First he put the meat in the dark, and witnessed again what Mr Li had seen. The reporter then came to doubt that the meat was paint with florescent powder. But after a few washes, the meat still gave out blue glow. Moreover, the meat glowed even brighter in the dark after exposing to strong light.

The vendor was equally surprised when confronted with the meat. He said: My meat are all freshly wholesaled fr! om stand ard butchers in Dahongmen, I have never heard of meat glowing in the dark. Another meat vendor Mr Liu with more than 10 years experience in his field also found the case bizarre. Reporter then interviewed a dozen customers that were buying meat, only one of which replied to have seen glowing cooked meat.

Reporter then contacted the Animal Quarantine Inspection Station of Tongzhou District. An official speculated that the glowing meat might be attributed pig-feed with too much phosphorus which accumulates in the meat, or the meat might have been contaminated with some sort of florescent bacteria that come from the cutting knife. The wastes of these bacteria are the glowing material.

An official from Industry and Commerce Department of Fengtai District said they often heard about netizens complaining about florescent meat, but they couldnt find out the reason so far. We heard that some inspection station have tested this kind of meat, which turns out to be okay.
