The discovery of avian flu in Hong Kong has affected chicken suppliers from the Chinese mainland, especially those in nearby Guangdong province. Chicken farms are worrying about business, which at this time of year should be seeing a boom during the traditional festival of the winter solstice.

This is a major chicken farm in Guangdong province, with an annual output of nearly two-million birds.

It is also a major supplier of live chickens to Hong Kong.

But selling the chickens has now become a headache for the farm owner.

The demand for frozen chicken in Hong Kong has been rising these days, as worries of an outbreak prevail.

Manager of Poultry farm, Guangdong Province said "The supply to Hong Kong has increased by 30% during winter solstice."

The Chicken farm owner said, the avian flu discovered in Hong Kong has dealt a heavy blow to the business, since the cost of forage for the chickens will be hard to meet if the Hong Kongs import ban continues till next year.
