Gas blast at Beijing baozi shop injures 7

A gas explosion went off at a steamed filled bun (or baozi) restaurant in Beijing on Friday morning, injuring seven employees inside, Legal Evening News reported.

An explosion at Qing-Feng Steamed Dumpling Shop at Zuyuanxi street in Haidian district in Beijing on Friday morning injured seven employees inside.

The blast ripped through the Qing-Feng Steamed Dumpling Shop at Zuyuanxi street in Haidian district about 9:00 am, showering bystanders with debris.

Seven employees who were hurt in the accident were sent to the hospital, but they did not receive life-threatening injuries, according to the newspaper.

No customers were injured by the blast, it added.

Beijing Fire Bureau said on Weibo later that the explosion was triggered by a gas leak in the shop, and police are investigating the case.

Chinese couple murdered in Cairo

A young Chinese couple were murdered on Monday night in a rental house in the Nasr City in Cairo, a Chinese embassy official said today. The murder occurred at around 10 pm on Monday, Zhang Zhizhong, director of the consular affairs of the Chinese embassy to Egypt, told Xinhua. China reports more illegal land use cases

BEIJING - A senior government official with China's Ministry of Land and Resources said Monday China had a total of 9,832 illegal land use cases in the first quarter of this year, up 3.7 percent from the same period last year.The cases concerned 73,000 mu (about 48.7 million square meters) of land, of which 26,000 mu was arable land, said Li Jianqin, an official in charge of law enforcement and supervision with the ministry.To date, authorities have launched investigations into 3,760 cases covering 55,000 mu of land, Li said at a press conference held in Beijing.Unlawful practices included local governments obtaining land through illegal means and illegal approvals for land use. The cases also involved illegal mining practices by some companies.Li said authorities have launched investigations into 800 illegal mining cases that arose in the first quarter, up 3 percent year-on-year.
