Magnitude 4.8 quake hits Taiwan

An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale jolted the sea off the coast of Hualien County in Taiwan at 7:17 p.m. Beijing Time, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. The epicenter, with a depth of 8 km, was initially determined to be 23.6 degrees north latitude and 121.5 degrees east longitude. The U.S. Geological Survey measured the earthquake at the magnitude of 5.1 with a depth of 25.80 km at the epicenter, which is located at 23.5087 degrees north latitude and 121.5591 degrees east longitude.
