Beijing's meteorological authorities have now lifted warnings of strong thunderstorms and lightning. Heavy downpours hit the Chinese capital during the morning rush hour on Friday. Over a three-hour period, average precipitation reached 11 millimeters, mostly in the north and west of the capital.

Morning traffic was slowed in some areas. Beijing traffic departments sent all their police forces out to guide traffic at intersections that are prone to inundation. Information was updated through radio stations, and electronic road signs.
