Mainlanders head to Taiwan for banking talks

BEIJING - Banking regulators from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan will conduct their first discussion on creating a cross-Straits banking supervisory mechanism, the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) said Friday.

CBRC chairman Liu Mingkang will head a delegation as mainland regulatory head to Taiwan since April 23 for discussions, CBRC said in a statement on its website.

The direct talks will be conducive to prudent operation and stability of their banking systems, as well as protection of the interests of depositors from the mainland and Taiwan, the statement said.
