U2s Achtung Baby Turns 20
Nov. 1 marks the 20th anniversary of U2s Achtung Baby, and in honor of the event there are five different remastered editions available as well as a forthcoming tribute album, according to Rolling Stone.
The tribute, announced by U2 frontman Bono during opening night for this years Toronto International Film Festival, features Jack White, Damien Rice, Patti Smith, and Depeche Mode covering tracks from the coveted album.
If you opt for U2s version, you can upscale the experience with the Uber Deluxe Edition, with six discs including Achtung Baby, Zooropa, B-sides, outtakes, and rarities, four DVDs, vinyl, art prints, an 84-page hard-bound book, an issue of their fanzine, stickers, badges, and a replica of Bonos The Fly sunglasses.
The other four remastered sets offer scaled-down versions of the above. The original Achtung Baby had five hit singles and has sold over 18 million copies to date.
Tony Bennetts Still Got It
The 85-year-old crooner Tony Bennett again showcases his star power with his new release Duets II, a follow-up to the 2006 Grammy-winning, platinum-selling Duets: An American Classic according to Music-news.com.
This new release features songs from the Great American Songbook including It Had to Be You with Carrie Underwood, The Lady Is a Tramp with Lady Gaga, and The Way You Look Tonight with Faith Hill.
What sets this disc apart is that Bennett was in-studio recording with all of his special guests, including Aretha Franklin, Nor! ah Jones , Queen Latifah, and Sheryl Crow, but it wasnt just about the ladies. Bennett also recorded swinging tracks with Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Willie Nelson, and John Mayer. Duets II is set for a Sept. 20, release date.
Doris Day Has Top 10 Album
Award-winning singer, actress, humanitarian, and Hollywoods girl-next-door Doris Day can add another achievement to her long list: She is officially the oldest artist in history to have an album of new songs chart in the U.K. Top 10 Album Chart according to the BBC.
Day, who turned 87 this year, released My Heart, a collection of 12 previously unreleased songs from 1951 to 1994.
Day got her start as a big band singer but didnt catch Americas ear until her 1945 release of Sentimental Journey. Since then, shes appeared in 39 films and has recorded close to 40 albums.
Day is joined on the Top 10 chart by Adele, who holds two spots for her albums 21 and 19, Red Hot Chili Peppers Im With You, and at No. 1 is British rapper Example with Playing in the Shadows.
Eco-Friendly Concert Is Pedal Powered
Sept. 1622 is European Mobility Week, a campaign to get people out of their cars and use public transportation, biking, or walking as alternative modes of transport.
In honor of the event, Italys town of Bari is preparing for its first-ever pedal-powered concert. There will be 128 cyclists providing the power for the sound and lighting of the Sept. 15 show featuring Tetes de Bois, reports the Independent.
The concert is being billed by organizers as the countrys first entirely eco-friendly gig. Regional transport chief Guglielmo Minervini told the AFP, Its the first concert in Italy with this dimension of sustainable development.
