Jerusalem blast kills 1, injures 30

Flash

A bomb has struck a crowded bus stop in central Jerusalem, killing at least one woman and wounding at least 30 people. Authorities say this is the first major militant attack in the city in years.

Wednesday afternoon's bombing occurred near the main entrance to Jerusalem, next to the city's central bus station and main convention center.

The blast blew out the windows of two crowded buses. Police say the bomb was planted in a small bag on the sidewalk. There has been no immediate claim of responsibility, but Israeli police have blamed Palestinian militants for the attack.

The bombing comes amid escalating violence that has threatened to upset more than two years of relative calm that has prevailed since an Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.
